How I Practice Vibrato: 6 Self-Awareness Questions [Video]
In this video, I'm sharing all the reasons why this is the first exercise I do each day, including 6 tips and awareness questions!
Overview:
Improving evenness and depth of vibrato.
Using vibrato exercises to improve the depth and resonance of sound overall.
Improving breath management, especially in training the feeling of a full, singing sound without wasting too much air.
Uncovering the connection between the air and fingers, and inhibiting unnecessary effort in the body and airstream.
Self-Awareness Questions & Cues:
Do I feel a liberating, internal connection to the pulse?
Do I hear an equal amplitude in my pulses?
How can I exaggerate the vibrato with less effort and pressure in my torso?
What is it like to breathe when I take up more space while floating up and out rather than collapsing and squeezing?
Allow the exhale to release with ease. Think Da-Ha-Ha (from Jeanne Baxtresser) for effortless evenness.
Inhibit extra effort on the note change.
Problem-solve with sound and prioritize openness and resonance to reduce “nanny goat” vibrato” and maintain depth of tone.
